Thinking about creating labs for VMWare the kicker is the resources needed to create a SAN. If you are going to play with DRS and HA you need to have the resources SAN based. With the support for iSCSI the Openfiler product could be a good testbed. Load it onto a old server with some disk space and you can have a simple SAN in a box.
